Venezuela: Election Day

Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez won another 6 year term in his tightest race yet on October 7th, 2012. His opponent, Henrique Capriles garnered 44% of the vote in a campaign he called a contest between “David and Goliath”. Chavez won by 11 percentage points surprising many who thought it would be a much tighter race. He pledged to deepen his version of "21st century socialism." Chavez succombed to cancer and died on March 5, 2013.
