He is currently a contract deputy in west Harris County but also works with the Emergency Management Vehicle Program. He performed high water rescues during Hurricane Harvey as well as Tropical Storm Imelda. ”When you respond to a weather event like this, the only thing you are doing is going out to assist the public - going out to help somebody. He became the third person from Houston’s Sikh community to become a deputy in 2015 when turbans and beards were permitted as part of the uniform. Since then, he has worked as a field training officer in patrol, and most recently, as an accident investigator.On Thursday, April 15, Deputy Nijjar responded to the 12800 block of W Little York Rd.
